Annotated Bibliography"Why" you need one and "How" how to put it together It is absolutely necessary to maintain a list of all references you will be using on your Web site. In some cases, especially dealing with "Graphics" and "Sound", it will be necessary to obtain written permission from the source to use the material. Be sure to study the handouts and look at the Web sites dealing with "Copyright Laws." Copying Text and Graphics It is necessary to maintain a list of all text and graphics that you are even thinking about using in your Web site. An easy way to do this is in a Word processing document. In order to find the resource again and to give proper credit in your reference list it is critical that you always "copy" the URL, Web address, to your Word Processing document. Copying text from the Web is just like copying it in a Word Processor. All you need to do is "Highlight" the text you want to use, select "Copy" under the Edit menu then navigate to your Word Processor page and select "Paste" under the Edit menu. Copying Graphics requires a different technique. This varies slightly between a Windows based computer and a Macintosh computer. On the Windows computer "Right" click on the graphic you want to copy. A list of options will appear for you to select from. One of them is "Copy." Choose this option then navigate to your Word Processor document and select paste. If you are using a Macintosh you just need to hold the mouse button down on top of the graphic and you will obtain the same dialog box. Downloading Graphics Just coping graphics to a Word Processor does not allow you to put them in your Web site. You must download them to a file on your computer so the graphic is actually available for use in your site. This is accomplished in a similar way as copying a graphic. However, once the dialog box appears with the various options available you need to select "Save Picture As…" if using Internet Explorer or " Save this Image as…" if using Netscape. You should create a special folder to hold the graphics you download. The Graphic is now on your computer for you to use on your Web site, or any other program that can read the graphic file. |
